Atlantic Brass Band - 2011 NABBA Champions
Atlantic Brass Band, celebrating its 26th year, is one of the premier performing ensembles in southern New Jersey.
Atlantic won top honors at the 2011 National Championship in Grand Rapids, Michigan, taking first place in the championship section. The band's program included "On the Shoulders of Giants" by Peter Graham and "Dances and Arias" by Edward Gregson.
Since 1984, Atlantic Brass Band has entertained countless audiences throughout the Delaware Valley. The brass band comprises professional musicians, professors, educators, and community members. Performances throughout the year at events including the International Trumpet Guild Conference, Cape May Victorian Week, Villanova University commencement exercises and other ceremonies and festivals, make this group a favorite throughout the region. The band has also performed internationally with a tour of Italy and 2 tours of England.
In recent years, the band has been privileged to host such distinguished musicians as Steve Sykes, Gary Cutt, Mark Frost, Ronald Waiksnoris, Tyrone Breuninger, Stephen Bulla, Dr. Steven Allen, Dr. Bryan Appleby-Wineberg, the Avonbank Brass Band, Philip Smith, Maynard Ferguson, and Dr. Nicholas Childs.
The band's repertoire continues to include a wide variety of solo performances, contest literature, small ensemble works, and a broad selection from opera, jazz, ragtime, Broadway and movie soundtracks, to name a few.
The band's most recent CD, Pageantry, includes solos by Arthur Henry and Dr. Bryan Appleby-Wineberg. This was immediately recorded following the 2006 North American Brass Band Association Championships. Recorded in the beautiful Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, this album features the band’s own choice selection, Pageantry, and also highlights a prize-winning performance by the Atlantic Brass Band Sextet.
The band has been proud to foster collaborative relationship with other brass bands in our region. In 2007, Rowan University hosted the International Trumpet Guild Conference, in which ABB performed with the Salvation Army NY Staff Band and the Imperial Brass Band, en masse!
Atlantic Brass Band is a British-style brass band, with approximately 30-piece instrumentation. The band is a long-time member of the North American Brass Band Association. The band has consistently competed in NABBA in the championship division.
ABB is the Ensemble-in-Residence at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, and was originally formed as the Wheaton Brass Band in the early 1980's by Yorkshire-born Herb Roselle.
