IRVINE and Dreghorn Band has announced that Richard Marshall, principal cornet player of Black Dyke Band, is to adjudicate the organisation's fifth annual slow melody competition.
Richard will then feature as the guest soloist in the evening concert on Saturday, June 6 at the Volunteer Rooms in Irvine.
A respected and devoted teacher, Richard is a cornet tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire. He is a regular tutor for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and the International Brass Band Summer School, and has previously worked with the National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain and National Youth Brass Band of Wales. Richard fulfilled his childhood ambition and followed in the footsteps of some of his cornet heroes when he moved to Black Dyke in January 2006 from Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
The contest (for Irvine and Dreghorn band members of all ages) is due to start at 3.15pm (hall access from 3pm), and guests can listen to the entrants during the afternoon. At 6pm, dinner will be served and the contest results, prize giving and concert featuring the guest adjudicator will follow this.
Tickets cost £12 for adults and £8 for children. This includes contest and concert entry, (with walk in, walk out access all day) and a two course, traditional seaside meal.
A concert-only ticket is also available with entry from 7pm. Concert only tickets are £7 for adults and £3.50 for kids.
A fully licensed bar will be in operation all day.
