The Brass Band of Central Florida, under the music direction and baton of Chad Shoopman, features Central Florida’s finest brass and percussion musicians performing in the British brass band style with a uniquely American twist.
The organization, founded in 1999, has an active performance schedule including concerts and competitions nationally and internationally. The band competes at the United States Open Brass Band Championships (Champions - 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010) and in the Championship section of the North American Brass Band Association (Champions - 2005) and has appeared with world-class soloists including David Childs, Robert Childs and Steven Mead (euphonium) and Philip Smith (trumpet).
Internationally, the BBCF has performed at the British Open Brass Band Championships in Birmingham, England, the Brass on Sunday Gala Concert in Symphony Hall Birmingham, the Brass in Concert Championship at The Sage Gateshead, and as one of two featured bands at the World of Brass in Concert. The band has performed concerts in Banbury, Bedlington, Birmingham, Kettering, London, Pershore and Peterborough.
The BBCF returned to the UK in the fall of 2011 to perform at the Brass in Concert Championship at The Sage Gateshead, and as one of two featured bands at the World of Brass in Concert. The band finished in second place behind the legendary Leyland Band, as well as taking top marks in Entertainment and Presentation and winning Best Flugel horn - John Copella, Best Tenor Horn - Warren Kus, and Best Percussion section.
Entering 2012, the BBCF was ranked #13 in the world and #1 in the United States.
The BBCF has recorded six CDs: Brass A-Peel, ’Tis a Gift, Sing, Sang, Sung, Anniversary, The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, and Omnium Gatherum.
The Brass Band of Central Florida is an IRS 501 c (3) tax-exempt and Florida non-profit corporation. The organization’s mission is to promote the British brass band style and sound and to help preserve the long, colorful history of its music.
