Cardiff University Brass Band Society was formed to create a friendly musical environment for brass players at the university to socialise and make great music together. If you play any kind of brass or percussion instrument, we’d love to hear from you – you don’t have to be a music student – just enthusiastic!
The band performs regular concerts throughout the city of Cardiff and sometimes further afield. In 2011 and 2012 respectively the band welcomed the world renowned brass band conductor Richard Evans and euphonium player David Childs for two days of rehearsals and a concert; giving the members of the band two incredible opportunities to learn from the best in the business.
Since the inaugural event in 2011 the band has competed in the National University Brass Band Championships of Great Britain (Unibrass) achieving the placings of 3rd, 5th and most recently 4th in February 2013. In 2013 the band's Musical Director Martin Humphries also won the 'Best Student Conductor Award'; a fantastic achievement.
The band have moved from strength to strength since their formation and hope to continue to. One of the contest adjudicators’ comments from 2011 sums the band up perfectly: “What was most enjoyable for me here was your spirit and clear enjoyment of what you were all doing."
Rehearsals are every Friday during term-time from 18.30 to 20.30, and are ALWAYS followed by a trip to our favourite Cathays pub, the Mackintosh.
If you’re interested, come along to a rehearsal and see for yourself!
