ordan Robertson, a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS), was awarded £500 by her local branch of the Haven charity shop. The money will help the 16-year-old join the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (NYOS) on a tour of China later in the year.
Commenting on the award, the Carnoustie and District Band principal trombone player said: "I was very surprised but delighted to be approached by the Haven charity shop. The organisation tracked me down after an article in my local paper.
"We're due to be playing in Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin so it's incredibly exciting.
"It meant a lot to receive the money because the Haven raises money for lots of good causes in the local area including the coastguard, Carnoustie Comunity Helpine and the football club. To be singled out for such a generous award was really appeciated."
A fifth year pupil at Carnoustie High School, Jordan is involved in various ensembles. She is principal trombone player with Arbroath Instrumental Band, bass trombone player with Tayside Symphony Orchestra and plays with the Celtic rock group, Gleadhraich.
