The origins of the band date back to 1974 as the North Hykeham & District  Concert Band. In the early days there were a few adult players and a nucleus of children. In 1983 the band were ready for contesting and re-formed to play contests and concerts under the name of Foss Dyke Band.

Since 1983 prizes have been won in the Association contests and 1986 saw the first of the major wins with first place at Pontins and for three consecutive years, and in the National Brass Band Midland Area qualifying contests the band achieved 4th place (1986), Champions (1987), Runners-up (1988) and in October 1988 Runners-up in the National Finals of Great Britain.

1989 saw the band promoted to the 3rd section and became Area Champions in the same year. This qualified the band to compete for the 3rd consecutive year at the national Finals where they were placed a credible 6th with players winning individual 'Best of the Day' on their particular instruments.

In 1990 the band was promoted to the 2nd section and in addition were able to open its purpose built bandroom at Waddington, Lincolnshire, now the permanent home of the band.

The band's progress continued resulting in promotion to the 1st section in 1992 where in the same year they were placed 4th in the Area contest and in 1993 became the 1st Section Midlands Regional Champions and Champions of the Chesterfield Entertainment Contest.

In 1994 the band won the runners-up prize qualifying for the National Finals for the second consecutive year where they were placed 8th and as a result of the continued success were promoted to the Championship Section in the band's 21st anniversary year (1985) making it the second time in the history of brass bands that a Lincolnshire band had qualified for the Championship Section.

Over the years the band has become well known for its contest and concert success and has toured Europe on a number of occasions and performed concerts in prestigious venues such as the Barbican Theatre, London.

Now in the Third Section, the band has renewed enthusiasm and dedication to build on its previous success and is firmly established as a leading brass band once again in Lincolnshire, frequently travelling throughout the county and neighbouring counties to entertain capacity audiences.

The band is engaged each year to perform in Lincoln Cathedral, often before a capacity audience of 1,500.

To engage the band for your concert, dining in night, function or corporate event, please use the quick link at the top of this page.

The band always welcomes new players at their rehearsal facilities in Waddington, Lincolnshire and rehearse each Sunday (7.00pm to 9.00pm) and Thursday (7.30pm to 9.30pm).

In 2013 Foss Dyke Band introduced a new brass band into the organisation as its 'B Band' and inkeeping with the Lincolnshire waterways theme and with concept of players flowing between bands, the new brass band was called Witham Brass.

Witham is the first phase of Foss Dyke's development plans going forward and we look forward to updating this website with further news on that in due course.
