South by Southwest leave you hungry for bacchanalia? One thousand pounds of brass bands cluster Downtown, Midtown, and on the Eastside to raise a percussive, horn-fueled racket heard all the way to New Orleans. Founder of the Dead Music Capital Band and an organizer of Honk!TX, Chris McMillan – he of the bass drum and megaphone – described the weekend for the uninitiated:

“Imagine you’re out to meet friends on SoCo Friday evening, grocery shopping Saturday at Wheatsville, or grabbing tacos at Las Cazuelas Sunday morning, and you hear brass music in the distance. You follow the sound and suddenly find yourself in the middle of a brass party.
“There are colorful bands everywhere and everyone’s dancing. There are no stages, no amplification, no one asks you to pay a cover.
