Music in New Orleans for Saturday, May 30, 2015: Royal Southern Brotherhood at the Oyster Fest

On Saturday, May 30, the options for live music in New Orleans include a food-centric festival with a solid roster of bands, along with a variety of singer-songwriters and brass and jazz bands around town.

 

New Orleans Oyster Festival, Woldenberg Park, 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

 

In addition to bivalves in various forms, the Oyster Festival offers a full platter of local music – and admission is free. The Saturday roster is especially strong, with the Treme Brass Band, blues-based guitarist Colin Lake, the Bucktown Allstars, trombonist Corey Henry's Treme Funktet, and Royal Southern Brotherhood, which features Cyril Neville.

Jazz and more vocalist Topsy Chapman sings two sets at Snug Harbor, backed by her daughters in Solid Harmony.

 

Traditional jazz clarinetist Tim Laughlin holds court at the Palm Court Jazz Café.

Country-blues roadhouse singer-songwriter Grayson Capps passes through his former hometown for a show at Chickie Wah Wah at 9 p.m., joined by Corky Hughs and Dylan LeBlanc.

 

Throwback bandleader Johnny Angel & Helldorado pull into the Old Point Bar on Algiers Point.

 

Hear cross-generational cover band Karma at Rock 'n' Bowl.

 

Saxophonist Khris Royal & Dark Matter hit the Maple Leaf.

 

Singer-songwriter Lynn Drury is at Buffa's.

 

The Dirty Dozen Brass Band kicks brass at d.b.a. on Frenchmen Street.
