The One Mind Brass Band is a one of a kind funk, soul, and traditional band hailing from New Orleans, La. True to form, it showcases some of the most talented musicians across the city of New Orleans. With a touch of Jazz fused with the modern day sounds of Hip Hop and R&B, this talented group of musicians have become a NOLA fixture. Playing traditional music such as “I Found A New Baby” and “When the Saints Go Marching In” to some of their original music like the toe tapping “Crown” and the buck-jumping “Say La La” this band can entertain crowds old and young. One Mind had it‘s start in May 2008, with members Elbert Williams (Lead Trumpet), Willie McCorkle (Trumpet), Arthur Agee (Trombone), Darryl McGowan (Bass Drum), Timothy Shelly (Snare) Javan Carter (Tuba), and Clifton Haston (Saxophone), all members of Southern University marching band. Being compared to the likes of Rebirth Brass Band, The Hot 8 Brass Band, and the Dirty Dozen, One Mind had created such a buzz they were called to be a featured act at the New Orleans French Quarter Festival, Creole Tomato Festival, and has even performed a number of times for Louisiana politician Mary Landrieu. They were also featured in the Krewe Du Vieux Parade, a various number of Mardi Gras Balls, and one of the most well known parades in the city of New Orleans, the Zulu Parade. They have graced the stages of The Maison, The Blue Nile, The Balcony Music Club, Tipitina’s and the House of Blues where they shared the stage with XXL Freshmen Nominated artist Dee-1. This band also knows how to “Take it to the streets” as they acted as the Second line band for The Lady Rollers, Pussyfooters, and the Camel Toe Steppers. One Mind is indeed, the definition of true New Orleans music as they continue to keep the brass band tradition alive with their unforgettable funky sound.
