Like the unique combination of a Parkway Surf & Turf Po’ Boy, the Outer Borough Brass Banddeliciously melds the precision of jazz with the soul of the second line. Blending crisp technique and dirty funk, the OBBB delivers authentic Nola brass band grooves to the boroughs of NYC, augmented by a secret weapon: a barrelhouse piano that puts a rollickingly fresh spin on classic covers and throbbing originals that sound as though they were written 30 years ago. Led by Loyola University New Orleans alum Joe Scatassa, the OBBB’s lineup is chock-full of ringers, Crescent City veterans, and NYC mainstays who have logged time with Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Bonerama, Honey Island Swamp Band, New Orleans Nightcrawlers, Afroskull, and many others. After putting numerous unsuspecting hips in motion during their debut on Mardi Gras Day 2011, the Outer Borough Brass Band has quickly ascended to share the stage with the likes of Rebirth Brass Band, Soul Rebels Brass Band, Glen David Andrews, the Joe Krown Trio, and many other modern-day titans of New Orleans music. Hold your hanky high because the Outer Borough Brass Band is in town. Get ready to get down.
THE RAD TRADS BIO:
The Rad Trads were formed in New York City in the spring of 2012 while the boys were attending New York University. Active members of the jazz community in New York, The Rad Trads came together with the intention of fusing their diverse interests in jazz, blues, and soul music into a sound that would reflect the unique journey of American music from its roots in New Orleans and various folk traditions up through the present day. Simultaneously, The Rad Trads felt that this music could and should be presented to a wider audience in a contemporary context, while not sacrificing tradition. The result is the eight piece brass band soul explosion that defies genre descriptions. The band has performed at legendary New York venues like The Bowery Electric, Arlene's Grocery and Webster Hall, as well as venues up and down the east coast. Current and former members of The Rad Trads have toured, performed, and recorded with a wide range of artists including Saturday Night Live's Lenny Pickett, Kenny Werner, afrobeat stalwarts EMEFE, and their own solo projects which have toured the U.S. and Europe. Members of The Rad Trads horn section are featured in support of Truth and Soul Record's Lady.
SLIM WRAY BIO:
Slim Wray is a bombastic, irreverent garage rock band founded on thunderous drums and gritty, fuzz-driven guitar riffs. Recalling blue-eyed soul classics such as The Sonics, The Animals, and The Kinks, Slim Wray powers things into the modern era with heart-pounding energy, visceral vocals and an energetic live presence.
*** Honorable Mention for NYC Best Alt Rock Band of 2013 in NYC –The Deli Magazine, Winter 2014***
"Slim Wray is every cool garage band that you love and still like no one else. The sound shifts like the colors on a vintage Wurlitzer juke box ... from melodic (‘I Gotta Girl (With a List of Needs,”)), Rolling Stones’ nasty (“Cutout”) and Memphis Blues (“Sunshine”). This Relix JamOFFwinner rocks it outta the park." -Relix Magazine
“Slim Wray is reviving what rock is suppose to be. Their sound mimics an early Nirvana/Jack White mix...they’re a perfect example of what was important to hold onto from the flawless 90’s acts combined with the knowledge we have today” -The Deli Magazine
“ groovy riffs and barking vocals, perfect for highway hot rod cruising....in a word, radical” -The Aquarian
MILES FELIX BIO:
Miles Felix (spinning between sets & after)
Born of a reggae musician in Los Angeles, Miles’ passion for music was instilled in him at a very young age. He grew up listening to the music of greats such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, James Brown, and Herbie Hancock. His desire to pursue music eventually led him to New Orleans to attend college, where he embraced his passion and raw talent in music, and turned his hobby into his career.
As a DJ in the Crescent City, Miles opened for acts such as Drake, T.I., Lupe Fiasco, Mannie Fresh, Curren$y and many more. But Miles had aspirations beyond the DJ booth, and went on to develop his talents in music production. Over the years, hundreds upon hundreds of projects later, Miles has grown into a producer of the highest order. Unlike so many producers before him, Miles is not confined to one style of music, but rather is a master of many. Whether it be creating instrumentals, producing audio for television and commercials, or recording clients in the studio, Miles continually delivers products with a level of professionalism and impact that is unmatched in the industry today.
