The Texas Star Brass Band combines the tradition of the British-style brass band with a Texas flavor, bringing a very unique and exciting approach to the medium. Founded in 2011, TXBB is the first major brass band in North Texas whose primary objective is performing and competing both nationally and internationally. The professional-quality volunteer members come from various communities within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and are committed to creating an environment of excellence.

Beyond performing, members of TXBB continually promote arts education through community outreach programs. By offering clinics and other educational events, the band hopes to develop and foster a strong movement of youth musicians.

The Texas Star Brass Band's goal is to develop a rich artistic and cultural experience through providing musical performances of the highest quality. We also actively promote arts education in the community through concerts, rehearsals and clinics.

Welcome to the official blog of the Texas Star Brass Band! We are incredibly excited about starting this ensemble, and we cannot wait to get into our first rehearsal. The idea of having a British-style brass band in the DFW area was first discussed in September as a casual discussion between Greg, Jonathan and myself, and it has turned into something greater and grander than what we imagined it to be back then.

A lot of our progress in putting everything together is due to bringing Brian Davis of the Dallas Wind Symphony on board as our Director of Personnel. He has been instrumental in recruiting some of the top musicians in the metroplex and filling out our roster.

We are in the final stages of having our permanent rehearsal facility, which was one of our biggest obstacles when we first undertook this project. We are getting together the last few members to fully fill out the brass band, and, once we get that accomplished we will be set to go in February for our first rehearsal.

We have met with some incredibly helpful people “in the know” about how ensembles start, how they make things function and how they keep everything going. They have all been very insightful, giving us lots of great information on things we will encounter in the coming months and years. Everyone seems genuinely excited about us starting this group, and they fully support us going out and making music. On a slightly humorous note, one of these people told us that if we are crazy enough to get as far as we have gotten, we are crazy enough to accomplish all of the goals we have already set forth.

I keep thinking about how incredible it is going to be not only to stand in front of an ensemble with the caliber of players we have, but also how we are going to get to share this unique sound with the rest of the city, country and, eventually, world. This is truly an amazing time in our development as an ensemble and the development of a new sound in the Dallas area.

We would like to thank the following people who have been instrumental in our early success: Adrian, Kim, Nicole, Eugene, Nicholas, Brian, Kate, Lee and Peter. You have all made this endeavor that much easier and more fun.

We have recently established a Facebook page as well as a Twitter handle. Please like us on Facebook by searching for “Texas Star Brass Band” and follow us on Twitter @TxStarBrassBand. We will keep you updated with all of the goings on with the group and let you know how we are progressing leading up to our first rehearsal. Thank you so much for your interest. We have TONS in store for you!
